I can answer your question and i can contridict Cindy, so I will do both. First, your question operates on a false premise. White mobsters are not glorified, they are commodified and comercialized because people are attracted to wealth and success and to some degree enjoy seeing the government out witted by citizens. There are those who would say that pimps are glorified in movies and such for their access to money, control over disenfranchised women and ability to pay off police officers to keep their women working. Also, for those, like “Cindy” who jumped ever so quickly at making this a racial issue, there are several organized crime syndicates that featured black and hispanics at the helm, movies such as harlem knights, hoodlum, the newer one that is self titled after the guy and another one about hispanics, ugh! the latter two titles escape me. But to directly refute the ignorant and blantly racist remarks that “cindy” made. Black and Latino gangs are notorious for the way they maintain their families. indeed they put their families and the well being of their neighborhoods at the for front. Some have accumulated wealth that rivals those of the more well known italian mafias with far less press about it. it should be noted that not all italian american groups were successful or respected, especially and particularly by italian mafias in Italy. Older black/ hispanic gangs are known to have organized activities for the children in their neighborhoods and encouraged agency and autonomy for their respective groups. For them war is often territorial or an issue of respect/having been disrespected. It is also a huge generalization to say that gang members are uneducated or like wise that italian mobsters were well educated. Finally, when speaking about the amounts of money that gangs make versus white “mafias” you have to factor in what each of these groups have access to. Think about successful asian gangs who are lethal when pitted against each other and are known to deal primarily in high end items such as jewelry art and cars…items that in some cases they have better access to particularly because the culture yields these products. Its far easier for an italian person to find a well placed politian willing to deal with them especially during the periods in question that it would have been for a minority group. the variables and considerations are noteworthy.I live and was raised in brooklyn.
